We chose Katahdins because they thrive on a grass-based diet, making them a sustainable and low-maintenance option for small farms. One of their most unique features is that they are hair sheep — meaning they naturally shed their winter coat and don’t require shearing like wool breeds.
Another reason we love this breed is that without heavy wool production and the accompanying lanolin oils, Katahdin lamb does not have the “gamey” flavor that some people associate with lamb meat. Instead, it offers a mild, clean, and tender flavor that appeals to a wider range of palates.
