Kalij Pheasants are a rare species of ornamental pheasant originating from forested regions of the Himalayan foothills. Males exhibit striking contrast with glossy blue-black plumage, crisp white backs, and red facial skin. Females are coloured in light browns and grays.

These pheasants are hardy and adaptable, doing well in aviaries that offer horizontal space, visual barriers, and ground cover. While generally calm, they can become competitive during the breeding season, particularly males housed in proximity. Kalij are quiet and reserved, and thrive when not overcrowded.

They reach breeding maturity in their second year. Hens usually lay modest clutches in spring, and broodiness is variable. Artificial incubation is recommended for best success rates in managed settings.

These birds are not pinioned, and can fly.

Only juvenile pairs are offered, typically from the current season. Availability is limited.
